| 17759 | 2001-08-29 00:18:00 | Hi Can anyone tell me if it is possible to reformat an empty NTFS partition (or drive) to FAT32? I have been told that Microsoft disk management software does not support this 'regression' but it seems illogical to me that a drive would be irreversibly committed to NTFS simply because that was the first file format chosen. I want both partitions on the drive to be FAT32 and can't see why a new drive would be required. I thought an unconditional format would ignore the existing file structure and just overwrite it. | 17760 | 2001-08-29 01:41:00 | Yes you can. Just boot into dos and run FDISK. Then delete your NTFS partition (it will probably be listed as unknowen). Then goto create partition and fill up the space left be the NT partition. Highlevel formatting will only affect the partition. You should never need to do low level formatting of a HDD. |
