17689 2001-08-27 05:23:00 When working in Word document
the computer keeps writing to disk continuosly until it fills the hard disc. Cannot save or close the document without saving to a floppy disk. It is also doing this on docs that have been written previously with no trouble when opened. The process does not start however until I begin typing in the document

Using WORD 97
Computer: Acernote Light Pentium 120

17690 2001-08-27 10:09:00 Check the frequency of the auto saves, they may be set to zero (int Options, save tab).

Even if it says 10min etc, change it as the displayed value dowsn't always match the set value.

17691 2001-08-27 10:22:00 Sounds like the problems are related to AutoRecovery & Document File locations.

AutoRecovery:
In MSWord click the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the File Locations tab. In the File types box, click AutoRecover files. Click Modify. In the 'Look In:' box, click the drive that contains the folder you want to store automatically recovered documents in. In the folder list, double-click folders until you double-click the folder you want to store automatically recovered documents in (but not the A: if this is not what you want). Note by default, automatically recovered documents are usually located in the Temp folder in the Windows folder.

Next, in the Tools/Options applet box, select the 'Save' tab and either deselect the 'Save Autorevovery Info every' box or increase the amount of time to autosave your document files.

Lastly, Saved Document File locations:
In Word click the Tools menu, click Options, and then click the File Locations tab. In the File types box, click documents/modify - then specify where you want these to be saved eg My Documents etc, I suspect the A: is currently selected.
