17752 2001-08-28 10:08:00 Hi

I have just finished rebuiilding a friends PC and have found that FD #6 of 9 with part of a Zip file containing the old but valauabale data is on a faulty floppy.

I tried to runs scandisk to fix the problem but it tellme me there's not enough space on the disk.

I can't copy the file temporarily elsewhere because my PC cant read the file.

Can anyone help please

17753 2001-08-28 10:21:00 Get a copy of PKZIP for dos, it includes PKZIPFIX and will recover all it can.

This has happened to me before, so now I leave 100KB free on each disk.

You could try Norton Utilities (free trial, althouth is 45MB).

You could also try to do a disk image for the disk, errors and all. But because its a full disk, i'm not sure if you can mount the image under windows, as I don't thing writing the image to another disk will help. If you have access to linux, it will let you mount disk images.

17754 2001-08-30 01:10:00 I use an old version of Norton Disk Doctor and Disktools for DOS. It is MAGIC for repairing faulty floppies. Have a hunt around on the net, or failing that reply to me here and I can send you a copy. Guest (0)
