17970 2001-09-01 08:51:00 No video display whatsoever from this machine.
Just a long beep repeating.
Brand new components:
Soltek SL-75DRV mobo
Duron 700MHz CPU
256MB 2100 DDR Ram
New ATX Case.

Have tried more than one monitor and video card with no joy.
I believe memory is seated correctly as there is an LED next to the memory to indicate power flowing to memory and it is lit.

Any help or direction here would be appreciated.

17971 2001-09-02 00:24:00 This generally means your machine is very unhappy with something. Probably not memory, chances are it is video - otherwise you would get video up.
You sound like you just upgraded. Any chance the jumpers for the processor are wrong or missing? Check all jumpers for the motherboard if it is new.
Also make sure the processor is seated properly.
I would be surprised if it was memory at this point, unless it's in backwards, upside down, or you wrapped it in a wet lettuce leaf before inserting it.
Good luck.

17972 2001-09-02 00:31:00 This motherboard has dip-switches instead of jumpers and I have manually set them to 100Mhz FSB with 7x for the Multiplier. (700Mhz Duron)
Have tried a PCI video card & an AGP video card (both known good cards).

P.S.No lettuce leafs present :)

17973 2001-09-02 01:31:00 Depending on your BIOS, a long, repeating beep during POST (Power-On Self Test) usually indicates a memory problem of some kind. Check to see that you have inserted the memory in the right slot, and that it is supported by the motherboard ? you?ll need to verify that the actual brand and design of memory is approved by Soltek. If you have more than one stick of RAM, try booting up the system with just one inserted. If you suspect a faulty RAM module, have the memory tested by the people you bought it from, or your nearest friendly computer shop.

17974 2001-09-02 01:44:00 The Memory and CPU were installed in the mobo by the computer store.

The beep has now gone since I manually set the dip-switches on the mobo for 100MHz x 7.0 instead of auto-detected.

I still get no video display or any sound of Floppy drive, CD Rom or HDD spin-ups.

Should I get at least some video display even if the memory is bad?

I got nothing even when I tried the system without memory at all.

Unfortunately I have no spare DDR Ram to try.

17975 2001-09-02 11:35:00 Hello Richard,
I believe your problem may be linked to the fact that you changed the Bus ratio from the default setting.
Try returning all dip switches to off, and reenabling the auto bus frequency select, the led should light up, telling you it is enabled, their is a fair chance you may have damaged the board by going away from the default settings when you installed the board and a warning to that effect is displayed in the Soltek manual.

Hope this helps
Alan
