18212 2001-09-05 10:52:00 I am running Windows 98 SE ver. 4.10.22A. When I shut down the computer it shuts down without any problems but keeps saying the computer was not shut down properly when restarting and starts scandisk. Also at times when using the computer it will just shut down. I have not changed any settings since buying the computer. What could be the cause of the problem? Guest (0)
18213 2001-09-05 12:29:00 Have you installed the shutdown update/bugfix from WindowsUpdate.

Its a common problem, so if that doesn't help, have a look thru the recent posts.

18214 2001-09-10 20:56:00 fair comment from bm but also the 2nd part of you quest. indicates a power failure,if you mean it just goes black and is totally turned off. Clearly scandisk is seeing all closes as a power failure. Indicates perhaps an incorrect voltage drop to the HDD before windows can close the programme. How old is the machine, maybe a new p.supply at $60 is coming up? Unfortunately it could also be a MObo fault. Even an overheating CPU.Have you cleaned it out lately? Good luck Alister Guest (0)
