18416 2001-09-08 03:48:00 Often a print job stops an inch or so down the page with a Printers Folder message 'There was an error writing to USB/Deskjet 810C/SG95I1V1GBFY for the printer ... The printer is not ready. Make sure it is turned on & online ... etc'. The end result is Cancel, power the printer off, try again, probably fail. Sometimes Econofast will work but poor quality. Generally the problem is not on a doc of total B&W text, but very small amounts of graphics seem a problem.
This is a 400Mhz AMD (upgrade), 80MB RAM, Win 98 SE.
Any fix suggestions very welcome.

18417 2001-09-08 04:06:00 How many other USB devices do you have connected? Guest (0)
18418 2001-09-08 04:27:00 You could also try switching to using the parallel port if you can, its much less troublesome.
Instructions are here:

www.hp.com

HP have links on their support page, but none of the relevent ones work.

18419 2001-09-08 05:17:00 Only have 2 USB devices, an Intel camera & the HP printer, each on their own port in the 2 port USB card from Dick Smith. I chose USB to be 'fast' but the hassle may force me back to parallel (just hope I don't get the same problem). I've got the original CD from HP so can use that instead of the web support links. Before I commit I'II watch this discussion for a day or two in case more ideas surface. Many thanks for your advice. Guest (0)
18420 2001-09-09 03:54:00 You mentioned 80MB RAM. Sounds as if it may be a mixture, and I would check there first.
Secondly, I guess you know about updated H P Printer Drivers available on WWW.
Parallel port, hmm!
Good luck.
