18411 2001-09-08 00:45:00 A friend of mine says that if the free space on yer HDD decreases the longer you r on the computer, that means that there are swap file problems. I know bout temp files & stuff, but the changes we are looking at at several meg per min. it still happens wen im off the net. i restart and its back to normal. is there anything i can do?? Guest (0)
18412 2001-09-08 01:15:00 Windows uses free space on your harddrive when there is not enough main memory to hold all your open application.

The size of the swapfile will by default grow and _shrink_ as more is needed (The file is C:\WINDOWS\WIN386.SWP).

If you want an acurate measure, start System Monitor (acessories, system tools) Then choose edit, add item, memory manager, swapfile in use.

If your system regularly uses the swapfile, especially just after you've restarted, then consider closing some programs, or getting more ram.
