18422 2001-09-08 03:14:00 Hi,
IS the sound from your computer from cooling fans only? If so, can i get a quieter cpu cooling fan for an athlon 900 (200mhzfsb) or is this dangerous. I want a quieter fan that will do the same job.

Thankyou for your help guys.

18423 2001-09-08 03:50:00 hard to recommend any without knowing what you have at present. generaly go for a large effecient heatsink and a low speed fan.
most of the noise from mine comes from powersupply and case fans. sometimes a slower but larger fan cam be quieter without loseing airflow. or consider a thermal speed controll for the fans.

18424 2001-09-08 03:52:00 Yes most of the noise is from the fans.

You can get quieter fans for the cpu, but check the powersupply and case fans first as they are the loudest.

If you change the CPU fan to a quieter one, you will probably need to get a new heatsink as well.
I've seen some heatsinks that have no fan at all, and would work with your system (no idea where you would get them from though).

Another big noise maker would be your hdd.

use a passive(no fan) heat sink on an athlon, you'll cook it.
