18333 2001-09-07 04:59:00 I have installed XP on my comp and all is going well EXCEPT my sound card will not work. The system will not let me even try to install drivers. It will not accept drivers for multi-media audio control or game port drivers.
I have deleted all drivers and then rebooted and it finds drivers for all mm except the two mentioned. If I try to install them from the original CD. it will not accept them. It just stops and does nothing.
The most annoying thing is that when I reboot it 'finds new Hardware' and offers to find drivers for it. And then reports it can't find any.
I haven't a clue what the make of the soundcard is. It just calls itself 'Forte-media 801'
Forte tell me they don't make sound cards. They sell the bits to other firms.
I think some of the trouble is that the sound card seems to be DOS based.
Any help very welcome.

As the release date for XP is not until next month, you must be a Beta tester for Microsoft.
I suggest you feed back to MS to make sure the release version is free of the bugs you have found.

18337 2001-09-07 09:51:00 Thanks, they worked partialy. I got it installed and can now hear sounds, but I can't get the speaker volume control on my desktop, but can set sound level in the master control.
Thanks again
