18570 2001-09-10 07:08:00 Basically when I connect to the Internet my computer sends about 4.00 MB of data to some unkown recipient. Where do I start looking to find the source, course. Guest (0)
18571 2001-09-10 07:52:00 Check what apps you have running (Ctrl-Alt-Delete).

It probably is spyware (although 4mb is a lot).
Or prehaps one of the Outlook Worms, eg Sircam.

You can get a list of active connections by running NETSTAT from the DOS prompt.
Although a firewall will also tell you which app is making the transfers.

18572 2001-09-10 09:03:00 ZoneAlarm a free personal firewall should be able to tell you which program is phoning home.

18573 2001-09-10 20:58:00 Sounds suspicious - as BM says, 4M is a LOT. Run Netstat -n with the PC both connected to the Net and when it's disconnected - if a port is open while the PC is not connected that's a sure hint that you have a trojan imbedded. Suggest you do a thorough anti-v scan. Guest (0)
