18775 2001-09-13 23:00:00 Hi

I have received by email some graphics files in jpg format but can't open them in IE. They were sent from a MAC but I assumed that jpg files were fully compatible regardless of platform.

They can be opened in Freeview Graphics Viewer but the images are corrupted with a vertical venetian blind effect and very weak colour.

Any ideas? Should the sender have chosen a 'jpg for window' option or something like that?

Thanks

John

18776 2001-09-14 03:21:00 My guess is they were corrupted, and IE is not as tolerent of the errors as FreeView.

JPG is an open standard, so anyone car read them.

18777 2001-09-15 02:14:00 Sounds like the files have lost some data along the way. Ask your friend what the file size of the images were.

Another common problem of not being able to open jpegs in IE or Outlook Express is when the jpeg is saved as CMYK rather than RGB.

I'll bet you are right. I was watching when they were being prepared and the top right of the screeen said CMYK.

I'll try opening them in another program that can handly CMYK.
