18895 2001-09-16 04:13:00 I have just built a new system Made up of the following ...
-EPOX Epox 8KTA3 Pro ATX System Board,Onboard Sound
-AMD 1400 Thunderbird Processor
- GeForce 256 MX 200 Video
- 256 Mb RAM
- 40 Gb Fujitsu HDD
- WIN98SE
-Skymedia SM200D
-Realtek 10/100 Ethernet Card
-
Everything runs fine and dandy except my GVC external 56k V/F/M !!!
I connect it to an available com port (either 1 or 2) I try to find the modem (auto detect) I see the lights on the modem flash but win 98 se comes back and says there is no modem found
I install the modem manually selecting the com port I have the modem connected to and when I run a diagnositic on the modem it says there is something wrong with the modem
I have verified that the modem does work as I have connected it back to my old machine and it works fine

Pleae Help I am at a loss as to why this is happening

18896 2001-09-16 06:21:00 You may need to setup the com ports themselves.

Have a look in System Control Panel, Device Manager. And try increasing the speeds used etc.

18897 2001-09-16 07:07:00 also check the com ports in the Bios. Guest (0)
18898 2001-09-16 08:02:00 Have tried that Com1 is set to 3F8
Com2 is set to 3E8

There is no other references to Com Portsd in the Bios

As far as I can see it all works I can see the lights flash on the modem when the OS is detecting the modem but it comes back and says it cant be found
