18839 2001-09-14 22:30:00 Just thought I would let you know that it looks like Microsoft have done something right.
I have just installed a pre release version of XP professional, I was given a full report of what conflicts I may experience and advised the appropriate course of action.
The install went perfectly..an absolute first !! and all seems to be working great.
The software issues that I had been warned of were easily overcome by visiting the respective sites for updated drivers etc.
Not said often enough , but well done Microsoft.
Oh, I almost forgot, MS reccomends a minimum of 128mb RAM, bu the machine I am using this on has only 64 at this stage and is working great, I know I wont be able to use some of the great editing features until I upgrade, but so far so good.

18840 2001-09-14 23:34:00 Cool :)

Any news yet on how much XP Home or XP Pro is gonna cost when it eventually comes out? I'm trying to weigh up my options...

18842 2001-09-15 05:24:00 Try hooking a standard USB Conexant chip modem to it and watch it NOT WORK. Guest (0)
18843 2001-09-15 06:48:00 Lasts for 180 days, and to connect the modem get the windows 2000 drivers... Guest (0)
18844 2001-09-15 19:31:00 I agree. I've been useing it for three weeks. I loaded it on top of win98 se, and it was the easiest install I have done since DOS 6.
I had to install an updated driver for my sound card but apart from that not a single problem of any sort.
It certainly is an improvement for MS.
