19214	2001-09-22 02:18:00	I am considering buying some more RAM online. After reading a press F1 post I checked out ascent.co.nz, and then found uptech.co.nz. I found the cheapest RAM at uptech. Can the term 'cheap & nasty' apply with RAM? They have many more brands than the 128Mb examples I have listed here. Apacer PC133 168 pin SDRAM Dimm $50, Hyundai PC133 168 pin SDRAM Dimm $50, Kingmax PC133 168 pin SDRAM Dimm (Lifetime Warranty) $60, Legend PC133 168 pin SDRAM Dimm (Lifetime Warranty)$65. $50 is really cheap for 128Mb, but not if it will let me down. Is it best to go with the lifetime warranty? Would you get better quality RAM if you paid $80 or $90?. Apparently Ascent is good to deal with. Anybody had any thing to do with Uptech? 19215	2001-09-22 03:01:00	Avoid cheap ram, it can be very cheap and nasty. The worst stuff is 'generic' nobrand. Go for stuff that has a 5 year warranty, lifetime if you can afford it. Although the hyundai/PQI stuff I got only had a 1 year and its working fine (although i'm underclocking it).	Guest (0)
19216	2001-09-22 04:28:00	hi Lloyd, with regards to cheap RAM, it's ok as long as there is a decent replacement policy at the place you buy it. I've found if it goes first time it'll stay going forever. The worst problem I've had was a dimm which reported half the size, -the supplier replaced it for me so all was OK. I've not delt with uptech before so I can't comment on them however.	Guest (0)
