| 19096 | 2001-09-20 01:21:00 | Hi, i'm wondering if there is a limit to the number of people that can map a windows 98SE shared drive/folder? What happens is there is a pc with a shared drive with data on it, and everyone maps that drive to store/open data, during the day everyone logs on and accesses data, and throughout the day get messages saying to many users, but 98 I thought didnt keep track of who logs in, it just shares the drive/folder? thanks in advance |

I know what Windows NT 4, Workstation edition, used to have a limit of ten users - that was a way of 'encouraging' people to buy NT Server instead. I would be surprised if any Windows 9X product had a limit, but I am not sure why you would want to share a drive of a 9X machine with so many people. It is a pretty unsecure and unreliable server option. Regards, Rob C |

| 19098 | 2001-09-20 22:06:00 | Yeah its a temporary situation until they sort out what version of OS they want on the server, Advanced server, SBS etc ;) we cannot put a temp windows 2k server OS on because we would require additional client licences. cheers anyways tho Rob |
