1279089 2012-06-02 04:38:00 My friend recently purchased one off eBay, after googling about it i found out it was illegal . That aside do Engineering Sample Intel cpus run properly? I know they are 'beta editions' produced before retail CPUs .

Any thoughts are appreciated .

Also his CPU supports DDR3-1066/1333
But his motherboard Supports DDR3- 1600

What kinda ram should he get?

Thank You

1279090 2012-06-02 05:57:00 Ram, normally motherboards support more than just one type. What board is it specifically? pctek (84)
1279091 2012-06-02 06:02:00 Intel DP67BG thanks PC builder (15482)
1279092 2012-06-02 09:28:00 Hope he's got the right socket. I'd have thought the engineering samples were mostly based on new / not released socket designs.

Might have lots of unlocked features for overclocking... if the right software can be found to tweak them.

1279093 2012-06-02 09:43:00 Apparently you can lose some of the performance monitoring features, temps etc depending on the revision of the cpu. Personally I'd only ever go after one if I knew it was new unreleased tech. But the chances of that are slim and there probably wont be any motherboard support for it. If it's old tech its kind of a stupid buy when the fully tested retail one is available. icow (15313)
1279094 2012-06-03 13:40:00 But having an engineering sample is cool...

I don't see why it wouldn't run OK. Might not run as fast, or can be overclocked as much as the retail version, but it should work.

1279095 2012-06-03 14:17:00 It might not run for the same reason beta software crashes. And yes I do see the novelty factor but I still wouldnt run one of these in my main pc. icow (15313)
1279096 2012-06-03 21:39:00 But his motherboard Supports DDR3- 1600

Actually it says: DDR3 memory 1600+/1333/1066MHz

But the CPU supports 1333?

1279098 2012-06-04 03:28:00 He should get the type of ram that the motherboard supports. icow (15313)
