| 1256558 | 2012-01-30 06:51:00 | As in title Figured if I have to stand up to use the computer maybe I'll not use it as much as I am (which is probably a bit much at the moment) Is standing in a stationary position all day better than sitting? Or better for short bouts? Any experiences / input would be welcome |

| 1256559 | 2012-01-30 07:05:00 | I did a short bout between real jobs as a security guard (no offense to the hardworking ppl who do that for a living), and I can tell you standing all day is really quite hard on the body. It hurts your feet, your legs, your back... sitting is a lot easier, just get to get up and move around occasionally. No experience with the workstations though. |

Sitting in my job to use the computer would be too much of pain in the ass. Although I occasionLy pull a stool out if I feel it's been a long day. | plod (107) | ||
| 1256561 | 2012-01-30 07:58:00 | All my work has been standing and moving around, not often in one place, however my last job I often spent all day at my workbench assembling stuff. I don't have a problem with standing all day. However SWMBO who is in admin cannot stand for more than an hour at at time without getting back problems. I guess it all comes down to are you used to standing all day or not as to whether it will work for you or not |

| 1256564 | 2012-01-30 08:32:00 | As Spike Milligan said of the Army, it is long hours of boredom punctuated by a few moments of mayhem every now and then. It pays rubbish considering your putting your life on the line sometimes. Mike no my wife didn't wear heels a lot as she has to have formthotics in all her shoes |

Not especially dangerous for the most part, pretty damn boring dpending on what type of work, and pays close to minimum wage. I think it should pay well but it doesn't(if you stick to it and get qualified it can get better but never great). Standing outside a bank all day asking people to take off their hats has to be one of the worst types of security work, I didn't mind the patrol work so much - driving around all night checking buildings and responding to alarms is ok. It might surprise you to know guards aren't really expected to confront or attempt to apprehend criminals, and their work won't cover them for any injuries if they do. If you for example attended an alarm and discovered a break in occuring you just call the police and let them deal with it. After that Job I worked in a service station for a while, about the same pay rate but a lot more regular hours. I think that is probably more dangerous than being a security guard. Now I'm back in the telecommunications industry earning good money I have a new appreciation for the poor bastards who do those jobs. |
