Appears a communist streak has hit the council and they get all indignant at people being paid what others in the country get paid. They should get one of those camera cars like here in Wellington - with one of those you can afford to pay your Chief Executive the going rate. But in the mean time - expect the new look Christchurch to look a bit like Chenobyl comrades - and no doubt the red councillors will be calling for everyone to earn the same money - also known as the minimum wage. I don't like commies - especially green commies. |

| 1256242 | 2012-01-28 01:04:00 | Well when council field staff (the ones actually doing the essential and urgent repair & rebuild work) are working short weeks to save money, how is it in any way justifiable to give the CEO a 14% increase on his already bloated salary! Nobody else in the organisation is seeing the same generosity. The muppets that work out salaries for public officers (including judges & politicians) need to have a look outside once in while. Equating salaries with private sector positions is all well and good, however, just because you don't pay peanuts doesn't mean you won't still get monkeys ... |

But if you do pay peanuts, you can guarantee you will. Saying that, it certainly looks bad, and the timing is very unfortunate - especially if others are doing short weeks. |

Get someone near retired, could be 10 times better than this creep that would work for the love of Christchurch even if the payment was pittance. A sort of Rommel, Skorzeny, Churchill sort of dude not some up his self **** like this CEO. |

All the while when the people paying for this are driving around on buggered roads, living in buggered homes and working in buggered buildings. And to top it off, he now says hes not going to take the increase, oh good on him, I bet he would have if no one had spoken out against it. The slime ball, I dont know how he sleeps at night, the guilt must be such a heavy load. Bob Parker needs to go as well. |

I'm sure a red CEO and Mayor combo could cost you less in salaries - but you'll pay more rates overall because they'll have all sorts of schemes to spend your money on bicycle tracks to hemp farms, or want to make sure you can only buy eco light bulbs that only their council owned light bulb monopoly sells, or just plain waste time arguing over how much water you'll be allowed in your shower. Yeah - by then you'll be wishing you paid market rates. |

| 1256249 | 2012-01-28 11:12:00 | I don't think bicycle tracks or hemp farms are on anyone's agenda at the moment. I just want a council that is going to fix the stuff that needs fixing, in the fastest and most efficient manner. The CEO is a critical driver of that process and needs to have the interest of the city as a first priority. Given the current situation, accepting such a ludicrous increase shows fairly clearly where his priorities lie. Defending his deservedness of it, to ratepayers who are not getting the services their rates pay for from the organisation he is in charge of, is piss poor form. |
