1256743 2012-02-02 01:50:00 Primal fear are a band who have based their entire career on 2 or 3 Priest trademarks, The singer even auditioned to replace Rob.

This is their latest, Lyrically its quite stupid, they do have better material.

Still. It kicks arse.

1256748 2012-02-02 17:58:00 I got a JB Hi Fi catalogue the other day when I popped in to buy the deluxe version of one of the old Cure albums Kiss Me x3 (yes I know they aren't metal).

In the catalogue they had one of the staff members pick of albums of the year, and a guy from the Wellington store had chosen ten metal albums (I have to admire his enthusiasm for the genre even if I wouldn't have picked any of them myself).

Now I don't recall his name but day in and day out (the metal section backs on to the Alternative section in Wellington) I hear that guy enthusing about some metal band or other to a customer. He knows his stuff and is passionate in discussing it, I'm sure they sell a lot more metal albums than they would otherwise.

Anyways the impression I get listening to him is that there are plenty of new bands out there for the metal fan to foam at the mouth about - it isnt all about resurrecting memories of the 1970's.

I was listening to the Datsuns last night (before my son went to their concert last night), that's as close to metal as I can take these days - I blame old age.

Overkill released an album a couple years back called Ironbound, Its widely regarded as one of their best. In my personal opinion its not only their best but one of the best metal albums I have ever heard.

Exodus played Auckalnd not too long ago.

Metal Chuch have been re-appearing every few years for an album or two, Though imo all you need from them is "The Dark"

Slayer have of course never stopped, But they have tried to emulate(if not remake) their older alums and its been a fail.

HA, I missed the link to Cineralla the first time through, I had their first three albums, Imo they were a good (but limited) hard rockin band who took a huge infulence from Areosmith. There main problem was there success came to them from being part of the glam scene and having a mainstream hit with a pianno ballad.

Pity, if it had been about the music they may have amounted to something, I believe they still tour and release albums.

Try finding Bob Marley in there - you'll be out of luck.
