I have been to brothels several times. (Not for myself, but for moral support). And I have asked this very question. Most of the time the response was 70/30 or 60/40. IIRC, the charges were 90 for half an hour - ~120 for an hour. Half of that is still well above anything most of us can hope to earn. |

| 1256227 | 2012-01-28 20:49:00 | You can't work in IT then, I knew those contract guys must be prostitutes. Hence the "most of us". Most of us don't earn over 100k a year. Edit: Prostitutes, I assume, don't work 40 hours a week and probably don't make 100k but ya'll know what I mean. Don't jump on me bro, I have a tazer. :o Edit 2: The investment bankers sure are! :D |

Maybe it's an unfounded concern or maybe not, but more streets don't have schools than do and there is no reason a brothel needs to be near one so what's the big deal. Put it somewhere else. People are protective of their kids, that's how it should be. As for women being forced into it, I'm sure there's some incidence of that but it's still a choice for most. We have a welfare system that will support those that need it (and a whole lot who don't), sure it's not an easy or comfortable life but it's enough to live on while you find a Job which after all is it's purpose. If people can't survive on that due to drug habits or the like then that's a choice they have made, if they have genuine problems not of their own doing and don't seek help for it that's also a choice. We hear horror stories about how women end up in that career and I'm sure it's true, but I don't believe for a second they all are in that situation. If they want out of the life there are people who will help them. |

| 1256231 | 2012-01-29 05:20:00 | I see no evidence of fans, just people who aren't offended by it and don't believe all working girls are helpless victims. I certainly wouldn't recommend it as a career choice. | dugimodo (138) | ||

I'm not a fan but working near to a Brothel means I have talked to them, they are not victims, they make decent money and have more than a small measure of control in what they do. I don't think it's a great career choice, Air Traffic Control is, but I'm not trying my hardest to find a reason to be somehow outraged either. |

Had I a wife or daughter who had to turn to prostitution for whatever reason I'd kill myself out of principle. The easy money might be nice; however self respect, pride and dignity, no amount of money can buy. Nor can money cure aids, herpes, etc. As someone pointed out, we live in a welfare state, one can survive for a week for a few hundred bucks. For the lovely ladies who breed like rabbits or are druggies (or both) - they have no sympathy for me. |
