1278587 2012-05-31 08:22:00 I had this exact problem about a year ago on a Compaq dc7600, I replaced the cmos battery twice in a month and it still failed very occasionaly so, out of desperation, I replaced the battery holder with one salvaged from a busted motherboard and I haven't had the problem since.
I came to the conclusion that it was a dry solder joint that broke the circuit for a fraction of a second, probably at the coldest part of the night, because it never happened if I switched off and back on during the day.

Arh!!! I really did not want to hear that, to fix i would have to do soldering on my motherboard.

1278589 2012-05-31 21:21:00 Get a new battery and all your problems will be resolved!!!! Bryan (147)
1278590 2012-05-31 21:54:00 And buy a cheap multimeter as they are very handy for all sorts of things. Why guess when you can measure the battery voltage? linw (53)

Even if you did, it wouldn't be a major event. You'd just need to heat the old solder joint, add some fresh solder and allow a couple of seconds for the whole thing to reflow.

And battery holders have nice big through-hole leads.

1278592 2012-05-31 23:17:00 I have no soldering skills nedkelly (9059)
1278593 2012-05-31 23:30:00 Better hope it's a flat battery then!

Or if it's not, I'm sure you could find a friend who would do it, or something.
