| 1256733 | 2012-01-31 23:44:00 | I do quite like the heavy guitar work of some of the newer stuff - this Pantera cover is a good example www.youtube.com Surely that's an original? Personally I'd consider most of the Pantera catalog stands as equal with the best albums of the genre, They are probably old enough to also qualify as old mans metal, Megadath certainly are. Seems to me that Pantera were the last of the greats, The next wave of killer heavy metal never seemed to arrive. |

No idea who Avenged are really, but they are 'new' - it got downloaded onto my PC a part of someone's rock collection on Shareaza ages ago. I agree that not much followed Pantera, once you've heard Cowboys from Hell at an impressionable age it's hard finding something to top it :) |

The Pantera concert in 98(?) burned new pathways through my brain, and alongside Heaven and Hell is the best concert experience I've ever had. The fact that Down opened for Heaven and Hell was pure electric icing on the cake. youtu.be youtu.be |

Saying that, it's no better than Sabbath's Iron Man Intro or early Metallica's Leper Messiah (before they got all pretentious and started taking symphonies to concerts) - the old stuff still rules. Aside from Iron Maiden in Auckland, I've not been to a proper concert since GnR in 1991 and 1992, age is coming to get me :( a7x :punk |

| 1256739 | 2012-02-01 16:32:00 | I have always been impartial to a bit of Priest, Purple, Maiden, and early Metallica But; things just kinda turned to crap in the 90's (IMHO - I may have forgotten a few legends in this period that were masked by everyone else's crap) www.youtube.com was always a favourite |

| 1256740 | 2012-02-01 20:59:00 | Neil Young with Crazy horse had a touch of metal when I went to his Live Rust Movie: Like a Hurricane (www.youtube.com), Cortez the Killer, (www.youtube.com) and Powder Finger. (www.youtube.com) I also followed a bit of Blue Oyster Cult (www.youtube.com) mid 70's and went to Thin Lizzy (www.youtube.com) (tried to be metal) concert about 1980. Then there was early Motor Head (www.youtube.com) I followed a little. |

One of the greatest bands of our time. |
