1256082 2012-01-27 22:23:00 When I was a kid at school we used to have regular sessions when a traffic cop came to the school and taught us road rules. I do think though that this was more for safety while riding bicycles or crossing the roads. The traffic cop even inspected our bicycles for safety defects like no brakes, bell, etc. My bike's brake did not work so to stop the bike I had to put my foot on the ground. For some reason my bike failed inspection and was given the equivalent of a yellow sticker.

These days if any vehicle I am driving has a safety defect like no brakes I have it fixed immediately.

1256083 2012-01-27 22:34:00 saying speed was a factor in a crash is like saying cars were a factor.

no one wants to accept that they might be a bad driver and the young and inexperienced have no sense of danger because that's something that comes with time and experience (but not always some people never learn).

Speed often is a factor, it's called driving too fast for the road/conditions.
Of course people over estimate their ability as you say, and think it doesn't apply to them and it won't happen to them.

There was a program I missed most of the other day, involved some people at a driving test range. One guy - 57 - rated himself 8.5/10. He then crashed the car into a wall and later missed his turn and drove through the stacked boxes.

I rate myself as fairly crap. Because considering how much we over estimate I guess as I'd say average then I probably am really crap.

1256084 2012-01-27 23:45:00 My driving has been slowed down recently by Police speed detector vans being skillfully hidden in trees (ones where they don't usually hide).

The fines are gradually impacting on my speed, like no advertisement ever has or ever will. Even a $30 fine seems to be more effective than a whole ad campaign.
