I've got friends in both the Volunteer Fire Brigade and St Johns - maybe the organisations should have got together a bit more on this one...

1256081 2012-01-27 21:57:00 There is no amount of education or shock tactics that will solve the issue, but they may help reduce it a little so in that respect it could be worthwhile.
If you don't consider there to be anything wrong with your own driving (and who does really) you will not be influenced by these adds. Some adds etc are just stupid also, saying speed was a factor in a crash is like saying cars were a factor.

The underlying problem can't be fixed without radical change because it's simply fundamental to human nature, no one wants to accept that they might be a bad driver and the young and inexperienced have no sense of danger because that's something that comes with time and experience (but not always some people never learn).

I believe if they took all the money that had ever been spent on add campaigns and had instead spent it on improving the roads and toughening up licence requirements it would have gone further towards saving lives. I don't know if it's practical but I like the Idea I've seen on american TV of driving being taught in schools, they could make everyone go through a comprehensive course on driving skills and road rules if it was done in a classroom enviroment over a decent amount of time. Why not make our kids better drivers than we are.
