19478 2001-09-27 05:28:00 I've recently hooked up a couple of big speakers to the soundcard on this computer. They go a lot louder than the speakers that came with the computer. Is it okay to have them up loud- ie would it drain too much current from the computer? Guest (0)
19479 2001-09-27 06:09:00 Hi Cameron

Don't sweat it! Size really doesn't matter. You won't harm your sound card unless you use speakers that are too low in impedance. Using 3 or 4 ohm speakers up loud might cause problems but since most speakers are 8 to 15 ohms there will be no problems. you just get better sound and more of it because larger speakers are usually more efficient so you don't need as much power to give you the volume level you want. By the time you push your sound card hard enought to cause damage the distortion would be so horrible you wouldn't want to listen anyway. Ever turn a cheap boombox up real loud?

Enjoy! Cheers
