19460 2001-09-26 08:57:00 Is it possible to start programs such as zone alarm when staring IE and logging on to the internet, rather than placing shortcuts in the Windows starup folder? If so, how, Guest (0)
19461 2001-09-26 09:17:00 if you are looking at starting up zonealarm only when you use IE you are missing the whole point of security. leave it to start up normally unless you have to manually start it.(eg you are using winXP) Guest (0)
19462 2001-09-26 20:35:00 I also have Zonealarm and I'm very interested in your response to this question. Could you please elaborate why you need to have Zonealarm running all the time rather than only when using IE? Surely it doesn't need to be running except when connected to the internet, or are you actually referring to having it running with Outlook Express as well?

I also would rather Zonealarm only run while online in order to maximise system resources and speed up the boot-up process. Why have it start up when I will not be using the internet during that session?

Grant, the answer to your question is to create a batch file in your C: directory to run IE, log on and lauch ZA all with one click. To make a batch file, create a new text file, give it a name with the extension .bat (NOT .txt) and include something like the following in that file:

@echo off
START 'C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\MSIMN.EXE'
START 'C:\Myprogs\Utilities\WebTime\WebTim20.exe'
START 'C:\Myprogs\ZoneAlarm\zonealarm.exe'

Your paths may differ, and instead of the WebTime, change your path to your Dial-Up Networking connection.

After your batch file is created and working, create a shortcut to it on your desktop or on your taskbar and you're away!
