19645 2001-09-30 02:57:00 Hey there, downloading Redhat 7.1, and am wanting your opinions on what you think is better - KDE (2.2.1 is the latest) or Gnome.

Thanks alot,
Jonathan Giles.

19646 2001-09-30 04:35:00 I hope this doesn't start PressF1's first flame war (go WindowMaker) :-).

For newbies I usually recomend KDE as it has more of a windows feel to it.

But, they are both very similar, just install both and see which one you like more.

19647 2001-09-30 07:12:00 I personally find Gnome to be much more attractive. However, popular opinion is that Gnome has fallen by the wayside and K desktop will soon become the defacto standard. Guest (0)
19648 2001-09-30 08:17:00 I'd agree with you there - but the last time I used Gnome and KDE was back in the days of Redhat 4, 5 and 6, but I didn't use for long.

Thanks for your suggestions

19649 2001-10-02 07:28:00 I like the black screen and command line mode better than either. With mc, joe, and lynx, what more could anyone want? The main trouble is that I can't find a card reader and punch. I have however got a papertape punch and reader. Guest (0)
