| 19607 | 2001-09-29 00:28:00 | I wish to install Red Hat Linux 7.1 on a winME system with two 40G hardrives and have cleared the second drive (D:) in readiness for Linux. There is obviously something I need to do to the drive before installing Linux because when I do the intall, disk Druid takes exception to the windows format of the disk. Does the drive have to be deleted from windows so that it no longers knows that it is there and how do I get rid of the windows formatting on the drive before installing Red Hat? Help, would be much appreciated. |

| 19608 | 2001-09-29 07:56:00 | You have to remove the windows partition on the drive. You can either do this from DOS, with the FDISK command. But you should be able to remove it from Disk Druid (make sure you get the right one). |

| 19609 | 2001-09-29 09:51:00 | The original poster (as I understood it) stated that the PC had two seperate hard drives and one was to be dedicated to Linux. The installation process should have automatically offered to reformat the nominated drive in ext2 format. I honestly can't understand why this didn't happen. |
