| 19820 | 2001-10-02 06:10:00 | Hi. First, I am a bit clueless re computers, so keep things simple! Everytime I close down my computer - Start/Shutdown/Shutdown, it chugs away until it gets to the 'windows is shutting down' bit and freezes. So I have to reset and start again. This happens every second or third time I shutdown now. I have Windows 98. It never used to do this, so I accept I've tinkered where I shouldn't have. | Guest (0) | ||

| 19823 | 2001-10-03 01:18:00 | Have defragged as u suggest. Out of interest, how often should a computer be defragged, or is this a 'how long is a piece of string' sort of question? | Guest (0) | ||

| 19825 | 2001-10-03 02:49:00 | Visited suggested link - recommended I try my Troubleshooting Wizard first, which I did. I've disabled 'fast shut-down' which appears to be working after shutting down twice in a row.Time will tell. Still interested in shutdown patch. How would I know if its already been downloaded? Could it have been included in a Microsoft Critical Update or similar package? If I have it, and download it again, will it cause even more probs? | Guest (0) | ||
