20088 2001-10-04 19:03:00 I have recently installed 2 x 256 ram (512) on my PC and removed the original 128 ram. I intend putting this into my brother's PC - he has 64 mb. Can I just insert it into the next slot or do I have to locate the 128 into the first slot and the smaller chip in the second? Does it matter? Guest (0)
20089 2001-10-04 19:22:00 You should really read the manual for your brothers computer, it may not even take 128 ram sticks depending how old the computer is.
If the computer is not too old say less than 2 yrs try it and see what happens, you are unlikly to damage the ram, more likely the computer won't run if it won't accept it. Make sure it is the same type of ram eg. sd100 or whatever

20090 2001-10-04 21:45:00 Hello,

after checking things as KO suggests, I;ve have inserted a 128, into the second slot with 64 in the first and it works fine. However further reseach suggests that the larger RAM should idealy be in the first slot, with the smaller in the second, and third. the slots are numbered from the bottom 0, 1, 2.
good luck,
Bob
