20165 2001-10-05 12:44:00 Can any one help me how to overclock my P2 mmx233 computer so I can use XP os.
The Mainboard is MS-6117 (ATX LX6)
Chip set is Intel82440LXPCI.
Is it possible or is it better to buy a new one instead?
Thank you.

20166 2001-10-05 13:03:00 Don't bother with overclocking, you will peobably gain more from getting extra ram if you want a faster computer.

The stated requirements for winXP are well bellow what you will need to actually be able to use it.

To get good performance you will need > 600Mhz processor and 256MB ram. And then it will probably still feel like your still using your P2.

20167 2001-10-05 23:17:00 Even if you clocked to 500mz you still wouldn't be able to run XP properly. Minimum requirement in the real world is probably round p3-6oo with 512mb of ram unless you enjoy waiting!! Go with Win2000 instead - less wizards to screw things up!!! I have now seen it running on 3 PC's and in my opinion its very bloated and those wizards are a right pain. Its pretty though so if you like pretty it probably going to be fine for you. Guest (0)
20168 2001-10-05 23:25:00 You can see what is achievable with overclocking at http://www.overclockers.com for you specific processor.

As for WindowsXP, it will run fine as long as you have at least 128mb ram, a half-decent graphics card (tnt2 minimum), but a p3 processor (at least) is neccessary.
