20433 2001-10-07 09:46:00 I recently bought a CD RW Drive and now I would like to backup my system, Win98, which has been unusually stable for several months now. Can someone please tell me what I should backup. I Zipped the windows folder 985 MB and got it on one CD with over 50 MB to spare. What else? Guest (0)
20434 2001-10-07 10:10:00 You really need to do a clean install of windows, 985mb is huge (mine is 299MB after 6 months), all the rubbish in there is probably causing most of your problems.

There are two types of backup you can do, a complete image of your system with a program like msbackup.

Or to backup only your documents, e-mail, addressbook, MP3s etc. And not any programs etc, because they can be reinstalled later (I also keep a copy of any installers for programs i've downloaded).

The advantage of not backing up programs is you can do a clean install. Although it takes longer to restore.

20435 2001-10-07 18:39:00 Check your windows/temp folder.
Delete everything in it.
That might be why you are so bloated.

20437 2001-10-08 01:38:00 Invaluable things to back up are your address book, favorites, My Docs, maybe inbox/sent items if you want a copy of them (right click on it to find stored location), Windows preferences. Guest (0)
