1280536 2012-06-08 07:06:00 I configured mode to AHCI in BIOS and since then my primary HDD is listed as hard disk 0 in HD Sentinel and no stats or scans work. any suggestions? gum digger (6100)
1280537 2012-06-08 08:11:00 Was it on AHCI in the BIOS, when windows was installed? Speedy Gonzales (78)
1280538 2012-06-08 09:41:00 What speedy said, windows needs drivers for AHCI mode so you can't just switch it on your boot drive or it won't start. If it's not your boot drive the drivers should have loaded but you may need to do it yourself, if you have a motherboard driver CD try installing them from that.

If it's your boot drive, change it back to IDE mode then google how to change to AHCI mode after windows is installed. It involves a registry change and a driver install before changing the setting.

1280539 2012-06-09 02:19:00 Hi, it wasnt AHCI when windows was installed. and yes i just switched and windows boots as normal after that. gum digger (6100)
1280540 2012-06-09 02:41:00 It maybe in AHCI mode, but if the drivers arent on the system, its probably running like it was in IDE mode. If XP was on it , it would have crashed it. Speedy Gonzales (78)
1280541 2012-06-09 05:48:00 Install the latest AHCI drivers for your SATA controller, try a different HDD status tool. Agent_24 (57)
1280542 2012-06-11 01:29:00 Windows Vista and upwards have Microsoft AHCI driver and are installed by default into the Windows Side by side directory (C:\windows\winsxs). So you can freely switch between AHCI and IDE before or after installing windows and windows will load the appropriate driver automatically.
As Agent_24 says, you may need to install the chipset specific AHCI driver as the Microsoft driver may be too generic for monitoring purposes.
You need to install this chipset driver (downloadcenter.intel.com(64-bit)*&DownloadType=%0AUtilities%2C%20Tools%20and%20Examp les%0A) and this Storage driver (downloadcenter.intel.com(64-bit)*&ProductID=2101).
