| 1280544 | 2012-06-08 05:07:00 | I'm posting here for my friend who is looking for a new router. constraints: - adsl2+ - wifi (wifi-g is fine) - available to buy in nz -<$150 incl gst.. preferably ~$100 - support for dyndns.org - few ethernet ports would be nice but not a must - voip if possible Pricespy seems to point towards Netgear DGN2200M or Linksys WRP400-G4 looks pretty okay. Any recommendations on brand/options for routers these days? Bought mine a while ago not sure what's available now. |

But some say they are v good. I have used a old ADSL1 router, a Linksys was alright but had to change a setting cos the internet would keep losing a connection. But after 3yrs the modem failed. Then I bought a Dlink b/c I initially bought a Netcomm from Ascent but it would not connect at ADSL2+, a lot of hassle even when I rang them on the day I received the courier, took a hit and got a refund. Got Dlink from the local DSE. Was working fine for maybe 2yrs, until when I swapped ISPs the modem failed to work on the day I got disconnected from the ex ISP. Now I am using a Netcomm that was given to me, so far so good for 30 days, shall see ...... |

If it's not the NB6Plus4Wn (AKA the NB300), then I wouldn't go near it personally. The NB6Plus4W is atrocious by comparison! Has half the RAM, slower CPU and crappy / buggy firmware... You don't want a router in that price bracket with VoIP bundled into it. It's not worth it. Get an SPA2102 separate... |

I pounded mine, browsing, gaming, transferring large (1gb ea kinda size) across the network during, it never crashed once. Having had many other routers overheat (went from a vodafone standard issue wired to a 60 dollar one (can't remember brand) to a belkin 99 dollar one, finally bit the bullet for the 180 dollar netcomm and bang problems gone) |
