1280290 2012-06-08 08:13:00 ^^ I love syncback. I use it to keep my folders in sync between my laptop and desktop, since I have song files for in the groove, and all my MLP stuff (pictures, episodes, videos) that I want to keep up to date. Nothing more annoying than going to pull up a video on the bus home to realise it's on your desktop. 8ftmetalhaed (14526)

1280293 2012-06-11 04:58:00 NTFS for an external drive is actually a major pain as it associates NTFS permissions of the original machine, if you take it to an other machine, and try to copy data out, you could run into permissions issues most of the times.
My recommendation is for you to format your external drive in ExFAT format. This format is supported by Windows Vista SP1 and up (XP needs a MS provided patch KB 955704), and Snow leopard 10.6.3 and up, So basically will work on all modern PCs and MACs. ExFAT is an improvement of FAT32 and supports large disks 512TB and large file sizes 512TB

1280294 2012-06-11 05:22:00 I have a 32GB flash drive and I tried ExFAT on it for the very reasons tmrafi suggests, it worked perfectly at home but the first time I plugged it into a work computer it showed up as not formatted. Turns out all our work PC's running XP don't have the necessary update. If you use XP at all it might be best to stick with FAT32 or NTFS. dugimodo (138)

Never had a permissions problem (for an external\storage drive) here.
