1257921 2012-02-08 04:17:00 Whats the bet that all those driver for peripherals for Win7 dont work for Win8.

I'm picking that the majority of devices will work, as it is effectively a tweaked Windows 7 (which is in turn a tweaked Vista) under the hood.

1257923 2012-02-08 04:47:00 I still love and use XP on a daily basis .

I tried Vista Beta and RC etc but it pissed me off . Worst part was the horrible performance bugs . I believe these have been fixed now in SP2 but I think it was too late .

Windows 7 is what Vista should have been (at least, minus the stupid taskbar etc) - I been tweaking Windows 7 to run how I want, and have put enough effort into doing so there is no way I am going to dump the whole lot any time soon .

Considering the screenshots I have seen of Windows 8, I don't like the look Metro much at all .

Windows 8 will likely be DOA for me, especially if you can't get it looking at least like Windows 7 .

This new fascination of sticking all the menus and buttons and stuff in the title-bar is one of the worst parts, I think .

I think it cleans up the interface somewhat...

1257925 2012-02-08 05:16:00 Regarding Metro in W8, Its designed for tablets or touch screens mainly .

MS have to make it accessible at the moment for mouse clicking other wise the majority of people wont be able to use windows . How many people have a touch screen monitor, not that many compared to normal displays .

What wouldn't surprise me in the slightest, is when its RTM, and you install, you have the option to disable metro on startup while installing by clicking yes or no, like you can now, but currently you have to alter a reg setting, then it boots directly into windows .

I can see when building New PC's and installing if they don't have the option to disable it, that the reg alteration will be used a lot :D

1257926 2012-02-08 05:19:00 If that option still allows Metro apps to be run from the desktop then that would be good. :) pcuser42 (130)

I imagine it'll detect the hardware it's being installed on and customise itself, much like how earlier versions have (think laptops and how Windows handles power management differently for them). If it detects a touch screen, it'll set itself up to work best via that input option.

Good point(s) I suspect it would have to have the capability of detecting any type of display its plugged into and turn on/off the metro as required.

Be a bit of a bugger for anyone having multi monitors a mixture of touch and non-touch ;)

Time will tell, as it always does.

Windows 7 can already detect if a monitor has (multi-)touch input or not, though it does little more than simply displaying this information in System Properties. pcuser42 (130)
