1257154 2012-02-03 01:21:00 What if you weigh it at night?

Well of course it would weigh less because the light from moonlight, torches, street lighting, starlight is a lot less than sunlight.

And yes, there are stupid questions....

We have people who have VPSs (Virtual servers), one was a large govt agency - who ring up and say things like:
What is this?
Do we need it?
Why are we paying for it?
How do we use it?
How can we do (x,y,z)?
- on being told it is self-managed and in existence for ages - to ask their IT person who looks after it for them - WHo is that?
Or - worse - but he says he doesn't know how to use it...

MMmmm.....so tempting to suggest perhaps we could just shut it off then...

Nothing like having a customer ask you if they can do a copy, even though the copier is in bits.

And thats is just the tip of the iceberg.Ha, who do you work for, I have had copier techs ask me stupid questions

1257156 2012-02-03 05:40:00 The police were once summoned to investigate a break in and theft of some IT equipment at our offices. I had to leave to attend another meeting, and excused myself to the local gendarmes and office manager, asking her to show them the Thin Client in my office (the only one remaining as all the others had been nicked).

A few minutes later the office manager called on cell phone to irately tell me there was no-one in my office, how would she know what this thin client looked like (apart from being thin), and wouldn't it be an idea for me to tell her his/her name.

Got to hand it to the Henderson cops, though: I could hear their muffled laughter in the background

1257158 2012-02-03 07:08:00 I had a stupid question asked of me today. After spending the best part of three months developing and setting up a website for a purely non profit organisation . "Well if you don't say on the site when the courses are on, what is the point of a website?" (When I had already explained that it is not possible to do that because the course coordinator was in the hospital at the time). I had to point out to her that this particular site was more than just for her info!

1257159 2012-02-03 07:18:00 While some of the questions people ask may seem silly, I'm really disappointed at some of the replies here.

People ask a question because they dont know something. Now while the question may sound or seem silly to you, they obviously don't know, hence why they are asking. It really pisses me off when people laugh at others questions.

There are a lot of "experts" who think they know everything, no one does.

So going by all the comments made about silly questions from others, while some make good stories - I will bet anything you like that all the people here that have laughed don't know the answer too everything.

All the people that have laughed at others here in this thread - I assume that YOU will never be asking any questions in this forum -- How would you like it if you wanted an answer for something you didn't know and all you got back was " thats a silly question - you must be an idiot".

1257160 2012-02-03 07:30:00 Umm...just wondering...how much does a shadow weigh?

Actually, it is measurable (with the right gear) and is less than zero.
You can calculate it by weighing an object with & without a shadow.
The lower number of photon impacts slightly reduces the measurable weight of the object the shadow is cast upon. :)

What if you weigh it at night?

LOL Globe, very good. And yes Fred, agreed.

In the spirit of sharing, here is the definitive answer (%3Ca%20href=%22http: w%22%3Ehttp://www.straightdope.com/columns/read/2987/do-shadows-weigh-anything]definitive%20answer%3C/a%3E) :D

A clip:

"...your question isn't garden-variety dumb — it’s dumb but interesting, a rarer and more prized breed. We'll proceed cautiously, as always when dealing with subjects on the cutting edge."

As an early philosopher (cant remember who) said "Question everything".

+1

We all think it's ridiculous because most of us are computer savvy, but if you think about it, it was a genuine question for someone new to computers.

1257163 2012-02-03 08:04:00 I've asked some dumb questions both here and over at the RepRap forums, but it's alright I have a teenage stepson so I have the answer to everything right here at home gary67 (56)
