1280616 2012-06-09 00:24:00 I am wishing to transfer Ms Office Professional 2007 on my Windows XP computer to a new computer running Windows 7 Home Premium but have lost the disk. Is there any way to do this without the disk. I do have the key. I have tried to download it from the Microsoft site and they say the key was incorrect? Any suggestions would be appreciated. smurf (6545)
1280617 2012-06-09 00:27:00 Dont think so, since it wont copy the registry entries. Nothing wrong with the free office suites (Openoffice / Libreoffice). Thats if you dont use Outlook Speedy Gonzales (78)
1280618 2012-06-09 00:30:00 Thanks Speedy for your quick reply. B-----er! Yep I have used Outlook and it is my emails that I really want I am happy otherwise using a free office suite such Kingsoft. Is there anyway to transfer my emails to say Thunderbird? smurf (6545)
1280619 2012-06-09 00:36:00 This? (kb.mozillazine.org). Dont know if it works. I dont use TB. Speedy Gonzales (78)
1280620 2012-06-09 00:43:00 Thanks Speedy.......it appears that you would have to have Thunderbird on a computer that also has Outlook in order to migrate your email. Thanks for trying :) smurf (6545)
1280621 2012-06-09 00:52:00 I found that OpenOffice will render the fonts and layout differently and they might avoid some shaded boxes . If you print one out in MS Office and one with OpenOffice IME .

A tech would probably do it for you, if they have the CD and you have the code but given the costs the home/student version is about the same . The tertiary academic version might even be cheaper .

What edition was it?

1280622 2012-06-09 00:57:00 Libreoffice maybe better than OO. Since it continues from it. And I think OO is dead now anyway Speedy Gonzales (78)
1280623 2012-06-09 03:15:00 My preference is for Kingsoft Office which also has compatibility with Ms Office etc smurf (6545)
1280624 2012-06-09 04:22:00 Yep I have used Outlook and it is my emails that I really want

If you really have to keep actual emails, disable the incoming server, email them to yourself again, then set up Thunderbird on the new PC and download them all.
It's not that hard to copy your contacts over.
