1280056 2012-06-07 01:27:00 Hi,

Asking this on behalf of a friend who recently acquired a wifi-only iPad 2 . She has a laptop running Windows 7, and uses 2degrees USB modem for internet access .

I looked on the internet to make the laptop a wifi hotspot, and enable the iPad to access internet this way . One suggestion was to set up an ad-hoc network . I tried turning it on, and setting up a network name, and password . We could see that network on the iPad under wifi, but when entering in the password a small window pops up saying error connecting - no other details .

As per the suggestion instructions, I made sure the 2degrees stick was enabled for sharing by other users . . . restarted laptop, and iPad too .

Where are we going wrong?

She can't get 2degrees' share data thing as the USB stick is on prepay .

Is there another way to do this? We would greatly appreciate something easy to follow (as she is no IT expert), as I would be emailing through to her the instructions as not sure when I will next see her .

Thanks in advance!

1280057 2012-06-07 01:31:00 You could try this. (http://www.connectify.me/) But the free version is pretty limited Speedy Gonzales (78)
1280058 2012-06-07 01:36:00 With that, I would need to pick the 3g/4g option, or ethernet/wifi option? caffy (2665)
1280059 2012-06-07 01:53:00 3g / 4g option I think. I dont use it myself. I dont think you'll choose ethernet. Since youre not using a cable Speedy Gonzales (78)

It's bugger all effort to set up Windows 7 as a hotspot ;)

So sorry for late reply! Sidetracked with other things.

I have suggested she looks into something like this, thank you! You're right this would be useful when she is out and about.
