| 1256889 | 2012-02-01 20:13:00 | The mayor of CHCH is under a bit of pressure now, they want him turfed out. I always thought he was creepy from when i saw him on TV. CHCH needs a kick ass mayor to get things done, this clown couldn't organize a pissup at the Mangatainoka brewery. Anderton would have been worse being too old and known commie. Maybe the govt should appoint a commissioner and kick some butt and that CEO Marryat needs to be shown the door, arrogant ****. However we have a worst mayor in Auckers I hate the commie polynesian wannabe ****. |

He is a good spokesman (which saved him), but not a good manager and cant manage staff. Yeh Prefect, Anderton needs to go away and retire, hes way past his use-by date. |

| 1256896 | 2012-02-02 01:20:00 | I don't envy the position of anybody in the Chch authorities. They're in a very awkward position. Sure, people want fast resolution to their problems. Regular ongoing quake threats make the situation one of regular change, backtracking and repeated inspections and reporting, and restoration to vital infrastructure. People want answers about their property so they can move on, and rebuild, or get payouts from their insurance companies. Meanwhile they have to seriously beware the inevitable unwelcome involvement of lawyers, who in time will circle in like the predators they are. People want to rebuild NOW, but there's a need to assign land that is safe to rebuild on, which can be made available without upsetting DOC, greenies, but is somehow expected to be assured of being quake tolerant in an area which has been shown to have hidden, unknown faults. They're damned for moving too slowly, but even being cautions they will still be damned (ie legal action) when areas they clear suffer further damage, or when others dispute the decision to trash their properties. Possibly the ideal solution would involve a communist authority which could walk in and say **** to all the lawyers and legal ramifications. They could walk in with a broad brush to condemn and demolish whole neighbourhoods without fear of legal or insurance backlash. Rebuilding areas could be allocated, again without any legal ramifications, and rebuilding could be seriously underway, rather than the current dribble of deconstruction that is taking place. I honestly believe it is the legal ramifications over everything that are holding the recovery back. The legal system (or just the threat of it) is shagging the Chch recovery. |
