| 21249 | 2001-10-13 09:18:00 | hi, at the moment my internet speed is at 37k's (max.) usually 36k's. I have xtra and live on the north shore of auckland city, i've had this speed ever since my connection on the internet. my modem is a v90 56k (i do have the most recent drivers!). The people at xtra's technical support said that it should be at least 40k's and so i should ring 120. But i want to know what for? For a line check? if there's nothing faulty when the guys come over, who pays the labour fees? if there is something faulty do i pay for any of the fee? thanks in advance |

| 21251 | 2001-10-13 10:44:00 | overclock it! | Guest (0) | ||
| 21252 | 2001-10-13 11:05:00 | That what happens when you overclock your pc. You see all the speed thats in your modem has to go to your overclocked p66 or whatever it was last week and therefore doesnt have enough erg potential to drive your modem.....Heres a fix You live on the north shore right. Get Jetstart get 4x the speed of a modem and be done with it. |

| 21254 | 2001-10-13 19:20:00 | Reality check here, SY. Every time I ever check the actual speed of a dial-up link I don't think I have ever seen one faster than about 38kb, even with a 56k modem. You could try going to the manufacturer and point out that they don't meet the capability on the box, but they will show you the fine print. Same deal with your ISP and Telecom. The lines in the ground were not laid with a view to running modems at all. Be thankful you can get in at all. And maybe Jetstream is the option, although I wouldn't bother if it is on an overclocked P75. You'd probably be running IE3 on it....... |
