21100 2001-10-12 04:51:00 I just installed Norton Internet Security 2002 that I won, and I can't start my computer!!

It only runs in safemode, and when I try to enter normal mode it reboots just before it enters windows (after the startup graphic).

Norton have really done it this time.. anyone know how to fix it?

I ran my debugger and the symantec vxd seems to be causing an invalid page fault when it runs from startup somewhere. I tried looking everywhere from msconfig, but with no luck on where it runs it.

I can't uninstall it either because you need to be connected to the internet, which can only be done in Normal mode!!!

Someone please help, I'm working on this but it's going to take a while by myself.

Regards,
Ryan.

21102 2001-10-12 06:16:00 Windows 98, I have 64mb of RAM, and a Celeron 433.

I'm posting to F1 from my dad's computer incase you were wondering.

I have all the system requirements for the program

21103 2001-10-12 06:59:00 Assuming you have win9x.
If you add the line: Network=1
to MSDOS.SYS, it will add the option safe mode with network to the boot menu. So you should be able to connect.

If you know which VXD is causing the problem, delete/rename it and you should be able to get into normal mode (with a few warnings).

21104 2001-10-12 07:12:00 Are you sure you need to have a active connection before you uninstall?
Otherwise, you may have to
(cough)re-install(cough)
:-)

21105 2001-10-12 08:11:00 Thanks guys, I managed to do step-by-step confirmation, and got to normal mode without loading the symantec drivers, and connected and uninstalled it.

I'm too scared to try again though =)

21108 2001-10-13 22:18:00 Yes, you need to have internet security connected and running. I think the problem was mainly NAV which it installed too. I might try again today :)

Thanks guys,
Ryan

21109 2001-10-15 11:40:00 If you are runing Windows 9x, before you try again get a trial of GoBack, www.roxio.com.
It loads before Windows and enables you to restore your system to pre-installation of software that messes your computer *S*
