I run Windows ME. If I buy the Upgrade version of XP, can I still do a clean install, or does that version only allow an upgrade over my existing ME installation. Does the fancy barcode stuck to the side of my PC figure in here somewhere? |

Generally, with MS products, if you have an upgrade, and you want to do a clean install it'll let you, but part way through the install it'll ask you for the original CD (such as Windows ME CD) just to check that you do own it. It doesn't install anything from that CD, it just checks that you have it. |

It's even possible to do a clean install of Win98 (using upgrade) using win 3.11 disks

Windows XP upgrade will only work with Windows 98 or newer. It will not accept Windows 95, 3.1 or DOS |
