21361 2001-10-14 05:11:00 Gidday,
Recently got a Palm Vx, but it is not detected by Win 2k despite having it in its cradle which is connected to a serial port. Win2k is detecting COM1 which should be it, but it's not detecting the cradle at the end of it.
Cheers.

21362 2001-10-14 06:13:00 Ensure Hotsync is set to find your palm on com1. By default, it looks on your USB ports. Guest (0)
21363 2001-10-14 06:58:00 Mr. Cruickshank, thanks for your advice. I think I should clarify my problem.

I have Palm Desktop 4.0.1 installed on a Win 2k SP-2 system. Through 'Hotsync' and 'Setup' I've ensured that it's looking at COM1. The problem appears to be that I can't get Win2k to recognise that there is a Palm in a cradle attached to the serial port COM1. Through Add/Remove Hardware I've tried getting it to install Palm OS Handheld device but when I click 'next' nothing happens (Win2k doesn't detect any PnP or non-PnP devices that looks like a handheld).

It'd be great to hear about any ideas.

21364 2001-10-14 07:49:00 Go into your bios, and make sure 'pnp os installed' is set to yes. When I tried connecting a friends palm to my computer, I had trouble, and this seemed to do the trick. Guest (0)
21365 2001-10-15 07:24:00 Mr Cruickshank, thanks for the further thoughts. Unfortunately, no joy. I've tried it on a friend's computer with Win 2k, and no luck there either. I figure Win2k just doesn't have the drivers for it, which is strange as others have apparently had no problems. Anyway, I think I'll go to the 'Softie's. Guest (0)
