2001-10-16 06:40:00 Is anyone able to tell me how to insert the symbol, u with a bar above it,as in the Maori word Purehuroa (this is on Massey University stationery? I am able to do this in Office 2000, but wish to print my document somewhere that uses Office 97, and the symbol doesn't appear to be available under 'Symbol' in Word. Guest (0)
2001-10-16 07:22:00 It is dependant on which font you use. You could have a look in Character Map. Guest (0)
2001-10-16 07:46:00 Thanks Dylan - that had me scrambling for the old manual in the back bedroom. But no, it is not there. I had thought there may be a code that I don't know/have. Guest (0)
2001-10-16 09:16:00 You can try Insert-symbol in Word 97. Then select font to 'normal text' and subject to 'Latin Extended-A'.
Some where on 11th row. Hope this is what you want.

2001-10-17 04:32:00 Yes, I tried that today, but the letter isn't there. Every other format seems to be, but not the U with a bar above it.Perhaps it isn't possible in Office 97. Guest (0)
2001-10-17 07:52:00 Try 'insert' symbol, latin extended-b, font= arial Guest (0)
2001-10-18 05:42:00 There is a specific set of Maori fonts available. The fonts give you also the a with the bar above. By the way, the bar is called a 'macron'. It signifies a long pronunication and is often spelled as a double 'a' where the macron is not available. I suggest you try university Maori departments, or government departments with a focus no Maori affairs.
