21980	2001-10-19 13:23:00	just pulled this off a forum site- First: WRT Win9x (including ME) and RAM: 1) If you have more than 512 megs of RAM, set your vcache limit: support.microsoft.com n&FR=0&qry=maximum%20RAM&rnk=1&src=DHCS_MSPSS_gn_SRCH&SPR=W98SE 2) Win9x is not designed to handle more than 1 gig of RAM. Installing more than this amount may cause your computer to reboot continuously or simply hang. You must limit the amount of RAM that Win9x can access by way of the MaxPhysPage setting in the System.ini file. See: support.microsoft.com n&FR=0&qry=RAM&rnk=19&src=DHCS_MSPSS_gn_SRCH&SPR=W98SE Second, on some motherboards, they say that they can handle X amount of RAM - say 1.5 gig w/3 dimm slots. Inserting memory larger than 128 megs results in only seeing 128 of that dimm. The cause is that the chipset of the M/B is an earlier design. AFAIR, this was a limitation of a line of VIA chipsets that cannot properly read 'high-density' dimms. For those motherboards, you must purchase 'low-density' dimms - which do cost more. I thought this was a scam when I first heard about it and checked deeper. It isn't a scam. My Asus A7V M/B is one of the 'victims'. To use dimms larger than 128 I have to buy the 'low-density' RAM. 21985	2001-10-20 00:03:00	havn't had any troubles with my sound blaster live except it requires the lpt port sharing or disable sb16 emulation(like who uses dos progs anyway). mike- theres nothing on the disk that you don't have already	Guest (0)
