21924 2001-10-19 08:37:00 I have just acquired a video editing program and in my attempts to get it working I have wound up with 1Gig of info on a file called win386.swp. I have tried to delete this file, copy over it with another from the windows directory, all to no avail. My Hard Disk is only 4G so it is now full!
Help....Thanks

21926 2001-10-19 09:01:00 this is windows swapfile. do not delete. it should shrink down when you are useing less memory hungry programs.

have a look at the other swapfile posts down the page

21927 2001-10-19 09:40:00 Also doin video editing with only a 4gig hd is going to be a huge problem - 4 gig is very small now so maybe look at getting a decent sized hd , say 40gig+. Guest (0)
21928 2001-10-19 19:22:00 You might also want to get some more ram, 384-MINIMUM. Guest (0)
21929 2001-10-19 20:23:00 Thank you all for your help.
I have 96kRAM, which the program says a min of 32k will be okay.

21930 2001-10-19 20:30:00 Sorry, I was not specific enough. I have a Pentium II Celeron 300Mhz 4.2G HD & 96kRam. Thanks, Guest (0)
21931 2001-10-19 22:38:00 You can remove entirely then reenable your swap file. Right-click My Computer -> select Properties -> Performance tab -> Virtual Memory Settings -> disable Virtual Memory completely -> click OK twice -> restart Windows.
Next, unload all unneeded programs/devices/TSRs etc by running MSCONFIG from START -> RUN, selecting the Startup tab and clearing all optional applications (be careful). Restart Windows when done.
Defragment your hard disk(s)/partitions using Defrag. If you are using Win98/ME, make sure the 'Rearrange program files so my programs start faster' Defrag option is enabled.
Reselect Virtual Memory Settings and select a new permanent swap file by setting the Minimum and Maximum sizes -> click OK twice -> restart Windows.
Finally, use MSCONFIG to reenable all disabled programs. Restart Windows yet again. Phew.
