21869 2001-10-18 12:14:00 I used Disk Commander to install a IBM HDD and it was installed as slave but I want it as master. I found how to change the jumper on the original Seagate master and it is operating as slave without the IBM drive being connected to the data cable.
Without my knowing a small amount of data was placed on the IBM drive when it was slave.I would like to get rid of Disk Commander and any other data on the IBM drive, and start a fresh install on it without losing any data from the Seagate drive at this stage as I want to transfer a lot of it.Can I partition the IBM drive for dual systems without a partitioning utility, and how?
Thank you.

There will be jumpers on the back of the IBM drive to set it to master.

If you don't want to lose data when you partition your drive, try partition magic from powerquest.com. The are free utilities which do the same thing, but they are even harder to use than fdisk. Head along to www.seagate.com ang download a free copy of their Disk wizard utility this utility hand holds you through the whole process of installing hard drives and will allow you to copy all of your data from one drive to the other very easily, you can also partition fromthe same utility, not sure about the dual booting though.
