1357030 2001-10-21 08:46:00 I have been reading about Linux for a couple of years but all discussions are about it as an operating system. How do I actually DO stuff with it? Write letters; surf; play games? Will it run the fast old DOS sofware I use in my Office ? Will it run the hundreds of bits of (Windows) software, I've collected and the programs I've written In Basic and C ?
An OS should just be THERE - not be a separate subject.

1357031 2001-10-21 09:08:00 Linux is a different operating system to windows, so windows/dos programs won't work (there are some exceptions, eg FreeDOS and WINE, Win4Lin etc).

There are a number of programs for word processing (eg Staroffice, Abiword, Wordperfect, KOffice). Browsers include Netscape, Mozilla, Konquerer.

You may be able to compile your C programs for linux.
