| 22132 | 2001-10-21 00:20:00 | Hi, Have traced my WinME shutdown probs to two things - graphics driver and Norton Auto-Protect. Solved the display driver one, but about norton... It never used to cause problems on my previous ME install (I did a clean install last week) What settings may I have enabled that makes a difference? If I have to disable it,(this does solve the prob) how do I do this automatically before shutdown without adding another app like exits to my startup which is full enough already. Cheers G P |

Another possibility (and this is a strange one which can affect Windows 9x and ME) is the Sound File which plays at shut down. I'm unable to give credit for this possible solution, just something I picked up on my travels. Apparently, if there is a problem with that file - the system will 'hang' while it 'waits' for it to 'play'. Try disabling that sound file and see if it cures your annoyance. Good luck with resolving your problem. Cheers !!! e_ |

I know it's Norton, because my machine never shuts down - always hangs on a black screen. If I manually disable Norton before shutting down, it shuts down perfectly every time. Will have to visit symantecs website and see what they have to offer. G P |
